The Thame Wombles have removed a total of over 19 tonnes of historical rubbish from Thame and the surrounding district since they began in January last year. Head Womble Joe Chapman says that they have just completed a complete clearance of the Old Long Crendon Bridge and Road, and that this project will continue by refurbishing the bridge structure and painting it in its original 1960s colours.
With the support of Thame Town Council and councillors Kate Gregory and Nigel Champken-Woods in particluar, the Thame Wombles also have an ongoing project called “Happy Highways” which involves the clearance of kerbsides of all weeds, soil and other detritus to keep the town clean and tidy.
