Greg Smith @gregsmith_uk and Rob Butler @RobBAylesbury, the MPs for Buckingham and Aylesbury joined four senior members from Risborough community to take a ride in a redundant fire engine to experience the difficulties HGV drivers experience and to discuss the options for upgrading the road, which still has 6m wide sections dating from the 1930s.
Members of the Road & Transport Issues Subgroup of the North West Chilterns Community Board are also concerned that, although the A4010 is listed as a strategic route, little investment has taken place to upgrade this road to meet current minimum road width standards of 7.3m and has limited cycleways to meet the new government guidelines.
Further, the A4010 is not only a strategic route, but also a designated freight and “blue light” ambulance route between High Wycombe and Stoke Mandeville Hospitals.
It is also an HS2 construction traffic route.
The matter is now being taken to the Programme Director of England’s Economic Heartland Strategic Transport Forum to try and obtain their support for this proposed upgrade programme before being presented to the Local Enterprise Partnership.
