The Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity (@fnhospice) has issued a series of challenges that we can all get involved in this year. After a horrendous year in 2020 where they faced a serious shortfall in donations, they are looking for us to get together and help them back on track.
The Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity provides much needed support for many people in our area, and this costs money. They receive no government funding and commit to raise £1M per year to provide their services. To do this, they recruit and train over 400 volunteers a year, but they need your help.
They are facing a £1 million shortfall this financial year due to the impact of Covid-19 on our fundraising and retail income.
They need to raise £2,740 every single day to run their services at the Hospice but at the moment are raising less than a third of that, due to the enforced closure of their shops and cancellation of fundraising events.
Whilst care and support at the Hospice is continuing, this huge drop in income is putting the future of hospice services in our local area at risk.
They urgently need your help more now than ever before.
So how can we help?
If you want to do something great and be part of something amazing this year, then taking part in one of their (or as many as you like!) fundraising events is a brilliant and rewarding way to help support their Hospice services and get outdoors this summer.
Whether you’re a super fit athlete or enjoy a gentle stroll around the block – they have a number of exciting events this year that will challenge and inspire you.
Do you think you could run 50 miles in April? This is a new fundraising challenge for them, and can be completed in your own time and set at your own pace throughout the month of April. Getting out and enjoying the spring freshness can also do wonders for your own wellbeing.

And on the running theme…
We know there are plenty of marathon runners out there that were hoping for the chance to run the London Marathon this year. But on Sunday 3rd October the virtual 2021 Virgin Money London Marathon will take place and you’ll be given a full 24 hours to complete the 26.2 miles. General entry to the event has now sold out, but you’re still in with a chance to complete the race as we still have some charity places available – but you’ll need to be quick if you don’t want to miss out! https://www.fnhospice.org.uk/help-us/charity-challenge-events/running-challenges/london-marathon/
or what about our Midnight Walk? Due to its popularity last year, NOT The Midnight Walk is coming back this summer. With everyone starting at 5am on Saturday 10th July, this challenge can be completed by anyone and everyone regardless of your fitness levels or where you live in the world – we just ask that you walk at least 5 miles for us.

Now, for all those thrill seekers out there, or people who are looking for a completely new experience, would you be up for taking on an extreme challenge for our charity this year and make the jump by doing a skydive? We have a number of spaces available in July and September and all skydives will take place at Hinton Airfield in Oxfordshire.

However you choose to get involved, it all helps towards raising the thousands of pounds we need to fund local hospice care and continue our great work.
So, get active, go fundraising and have fun!
