This open-ended warning against travel has caused confusion. It’s left holidaymakers unsure what to do about existing bookings, with questions over their rights to refunds for cancelled flights, holidays and hotels. Tui and Jet2 Holidays have both cancelled flights and holidays until mid-May and mid-June respectively, but some other operators are not cancelling trips until two weeks before the departure date. And some airlines continue to operate flights, refusing to allow customers booked on them to cancel and claim a refund.
Which? approached the UK’s 10 biggest package holiday providers and 10 largest airlines, and found none of them were meeting their legal requirements to refund consumers within the statutory timeframe.
