With Wycombe Wanderers FC just one match away from Championship football next season, the messages of support for Gareth Ainsworth and his squad are pouring in from the Council ahead of the crunch Wembley encounter with local rivals Oxford United on Monday (July 13) .
And, to add to the excitement, the Buckinghamshire Council offices in Queen Victoria Road are set to be illuminated in blue light this weekend and a giant football on Monday evening, thanks to Marlow based firm, Lumatech Ltd.
Leader of the Council, Martin Tett said that his fingers were firmly crossed that football would be coming home on Monday evening. “Come on the Wanderers,” he said. “We’ll all be nervous, but we know you can do it.”
Cabinet Member for Sports and Leisure Clive Harriss added, “This is the big one and we’re right behind the boys. Despite the Covid restrictions, it will be a magnificent occasion for the town and all the supporters. Fingers crossed that it’s Championship football next season for our wonderful local club.”
Chris Clarke from Lumatech, who arranged the illumination said, “As a company, we were delighted to lend our support and add to the sense of occasion. You don’t often see a giant football on the council offices but when you do, you know its important! Good luck to the Wanderers.”
The match, at Wembley Stadium, kicks off at 7.30pm.
