A large-scale study, undertaken by the NHS in July 2020, found that a staggering 1 in 6 children now have a mental health condition. Last week, the Children’s Commissioner Anne Longfield explained ‘The sad truth is services are still nowhere near meeting the level of need. Hundreds of thousands of children are being left without help as a result’.
On Monday, two more part-time counsellors joined the counselling team at Youth Concern. The Rothschild Foundation’s grant allows them to employ Sam and Amber for 6 months and they are looking for funding to extend their contracts beyond July because as Anne Longfield added, ‘The level of underlying mental health problems will remain significantly higher [than pre-Covid times] as a result of the pandemic’.
